The school year started off on a healthy note with our “Let’s OWL be well” event on August 26th in Traditions Plaza. This event provided students with information on a healthy lifestyle and encouraged students to choose one healthy habit to integrate into their routines this semester. Over 170 students participated in the event, which included educational activities on nutritious eating, physical activity and restful sleep. After learning about strategies for healthier living, students took part in the FL Promise Project, a state-wide initiative by the Florida Department of Health, by posting their healthy habits and choosing to focus on making one small health change this semester.

TIPS FOR ACHIEVING A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE!
1. START WHERE YOU ARE
The first step to successful behavior change is assessing your current lifestyle. How do you feel about your current eating habits, physical activity and sleep?
2. CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME
Often times, we try to change everything all at once and end up unsuccessful. Instead, focus on one healthy habit at a time. Once you have integrated this one health behavior into your life, move on to something else. Small changes add up to a healthier lifestyle over time.
3. IDENTIFY YOUR CORE MOTIVATORS
Take some time to think about why you want to live a healthier lifestyle. What is motivating you to make a change? How will this new healthy habit affect your life? Getting clear on your ‘WHY’ will give your goals direction and meaning.
4. GET SUPPORT
Surround yourself with people who can support your journey to healthier living. Seek out campus resources for wellness.
